Club Observatories

The Astronomy Club of Asheville is involved in the operation of two astronomical observatories in the region:

Lookout Observatory on the UNC-Asheville campus and Grassland Mountain Observatory in Madison County.

Lookout Observatory is a partnership between the club and the university, while Grassland Mountain Observatory is wholly owned and operated by the club.

“The known is finite, the unknown is infinite; intellectually we stand on an islet in the midst of an illimitable ocean of inexplicability. Our business in every generation is to reclaim a little more land.”
– T.H. Huxley
